When Clients Want the Moon but Forget the Rocket: A Tale of Bad Planning and Online Marketing Woes 🚀

There’s nothing like that first meeting with a new client where expectations soar higher than their budget. Picture this: a client walks into PIMdesign (brimming with optimism, mind you) and says, “We need a full-blown marketing campaign. Website, social media, a viral video, email blasts, influencer collabs, and oh, we’re launching in three days. Can you make it happen?” 😅

I wish I could bottle the expression on their face when we politely explain that magic isn’t part of the service package.

**Bad planning looks like this:**

– No website until two days before launch.

– No content except for a blurry photo of your product.

– No clear idea of who your audience is – but hey, we’ll figure it out, right?

With unreasonable expectations, it usually goes something like this: “But my friend’s friend went viral with a TikTok about sandwiches! It can’t be that hard.” Sorry, but unless your sandwiches are made by Beyoncé, that’s going to take a bit more work (and, yes, time).

At PIMdesign, we love working with enthusiastic clients, but there’s a fine line between excitement and, well, *fantasy.* Sure, we could slap together a website overnight and throw up some ads, but real, sustainable success requires more than just a “quick fix.” It needs **planning, strategy, and a reasonable timeline**.

Marketing isn’t about instant gratification (no matter what social media might tell you). It’s about building a presence, engaging your audience, and putting in the work to turn clicks into customers. A solid campaign takes time – and trust me, giving us more than three days will save you some serious headaches (and probably your budget).

So, if you’re dreaming big, fantastic! But before you come in with a plan to go viral by Tuesday, let’s sit down, map out a strategy, and launch your business *the right way* – with PIMdesign working alongside you every step of the way.

So give me a call for a friendly no obligation chat.

A Proven Method – Part Two by PIMdesign

In my last post I said I would describe how, together with our client, we achieved a 4X ROI.

Our client’s workshop is run by experienced horologists. Their workbenches are clean and organised, they have to be.

Watches come into their workshop every day and are carefully checked, recorded and assigned job numbers.

The challenge for us involved overcoming the genuine fear of sending a precious watch off for battery or repair. It needed us to create a complete door to door solution that would exceed the customers’ expectations. Relieve them of worry, convince them that their watch was in the care of time served professionals and that it absolutely would come back to them in a timely manner.

An online marketing campaign was needed to get clients to even consider an alternative way of getting their watch repaired.

To begin with, we ran a highly targeted Adword campaign. Our goal was to ensure that the cost to acquire a sale was less than the cost of repair.

We ensured that as part of the campaign we captured reviews that would reinforce the service. Tracking by the client ensured that the customer knew exactly where the watch was at any point in time.

The rotating of adverts, creating specific landing pages to focus on brands, search engine optimisation and constant tweaking of the flow to order were just some of the things ongoing.

We constantly make changes to the site to improve the customer’s journey, to reassure and inform and everything we do is evidence-based.

Our forward-thinking client, in a bid to further exceed customers expectations had branded watch boxes made so that watches would be returned in pristine condition. Our discussions, market research and regular contact drove us to conclude that door to door pickup by DHL all included in the cost further reassured the customers.

I asked our long-standing client to tell others why they should use PIMdesign and what the experience has been like to date.

This is what he said… “The most important aspect of working with PIMdesign is the way in which we, as a client, feel treated as a partner along the journey and not just a customer who gets a product or service and a bill at the end of the month. The journey from conception to result, which is ever-morphing and adapting, is one that provides professional, experienced advice and knowledge as well as clear communication. The road to a great ROI for us was clearly mapped from the beginning and along the way we have evolved and grown the initial idea into a great business – this we could not have done without PIMdesign.”

The Power of Social Media

Nowadays great examples of blogs and social media can be found all over the internet.

Take a look at this site Fifty Four and Counting

This website offers reviews about travel restaurants, hotels and attractions.

By posting content and sharing those reviews across social media channels the site gains visitors.

Those visitors are being influenced by the influencer .. ie the blogger.

So consider writing a regular block .. it could just bring you new customers!

social media

Social Media builds Credibility, Authority the PIM Way

Many of our clients get ever so caught up with the world of social media, not really fully appreciating the complex world and art of online communication.

Whatever your service or products, don’t try to sell .. better to tell!

Tell your readers about the service or review of the products. Tell them the good the bad and the ugly.. tell them as it is.

You see the power of social media is about credibility, authority and get your voice heard.

Friends, clients and colleagues likely trust your judgement in your field of expertise, they listen to what you have to say and make decisions based on what they here and see.

Take for instance a friend telling you that they had a fantastic meal last night at Jacks Bistro. The power of that referral, recommendation cannot be underestimated.

Likewise good businesses offering a cracking good value service are hard to come by. So when you hear about one your all ears!

PIMdesign love social media.. we love its reach, its influence, its power and the low costs and flexibility.

Our technique of writing is from the heart, inspirational, passionate and readable.

When we post articles we want the readership to share it, tell others about what they read and comment on the funny things, the controversial topics and those that inspire them.

Everyone has something to say about what they do, did, are going to do or wish they did. They have thoughts to on what they saw, didn’t see, what they hear and what others have to say.

We love to write about services and products and make a point of disseminating our articles via channels such as Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+, Facebook and our clients blogs and newsletters.

If you’d like us to do that for you too, just drop me a line and we’ll be happy to help.

This week we completed an IOS and Android app, completed a couple of websites, we sent out regular mailshots for our clients, continued to keep our clients SEO results on the first page and manage their Adwords campaigns.

PIMdesign – Design, Hosting and Marketing

Let’s be clear..  there can be nothing more dissatisfying than a website that runs slow, fails to work as expected and a service provider that doesn’t answer your calls.

There is a discernible difference between a cheap mass hosting provider and one like PIMdesign.

PIMdesign is a small team of people that care. We are genuinely passionate about keeping your online business running twenty four hours a day.

What’s more, is that we understand business .. not just because we run one ourselves but because we trade online every day.

When you get cheap, you get exactly what you paid for. But when you need the support and experience that’s when you undestand the importance of a professional hosting company.

All our servers are supported by a managed hosting team who are available to us 24 hours a day. They answer our calls immediately when we call and deal with any issues on the spot.

Recently a new client of ours came to us because he was fed up with his current provider.

He told us that he couldn’t contact them, that they ignored his emails constantly, the site had errors, he couldn’t make changes and all in all it was an embarrassment.

PIMdesign stepped in and suggested a plan of action. We took over the hosting of the site, sorted out all issues and then agreed a plan for a fresh new design he would be proud of.

We can help you too … why not contact us .. I can be reached on 01617661742 or by email dsf@pimdesign.com

PIM – It stands for Profitable Internet Marketing

When I first got into the internet business, as an early adopter, my concern and those around me was all about how you could turn a profit from the internet and what was meant by internet marketing.

It’s all very well saying that you have a website, but these days high streets are feeling the pinch with prices being driven down so low that that the vendors appear to be paying you to take their goods!

So hence the name that we’ve used since 1995, Profitable internet Marketing or PIM for short.

We have a number of arms to our services here at PIM with the main one being PIMdesign. You’ll find the site here at www.PIMdesign.com .

We specialise in hosting, designing and marketing websites.

Hosting starts for most sites from just £100 plus VAT per annum and that includes the hosting of the site and email.

Over the coming weeks and months I’m going to share with you information about our various services, some case studies and best practice.

If you have any questions, just get in touch … we’d love to hear from you.

PIMdesign reboots its website

There’s an old adage that gardners’ gardens are overgrown, hairdressers are unkempt and web designers’ websites are never updated.

We decided to give the lie to that adage (even though we kind of made it up ourselves a little).

So, welcome to the new-look PIMdesign, responsive, gob-smacking, knock-me-down-with-a-feather website!

At last, our own website reflects some of the new trends in web design.

Over recent years you may have noticed something called ‘the mobile phone’ or ‘the mobile’ – even though Americans insist on calling it a cell-phone, which sounds like something a prisoner/convict would use to make that one call to his ‘Mom’.

Mobiles have driven the web-design industry to adopt new ways of building websites. The reasons are clear: everyone uses a mobile, now, right? A mobile phone has a tiny screen compared to a PC or Mac. If you just shrink the site you can see onto a phone it’s rather like Alice taking the bottle labelled ‘Drink Me’. The page is so minute that sometimes a scanning microscope is required to read it.

What do you do about that, then?

Well, you create sites which are ‘responsive’. That means the code underlying the website identifies the device it is being viewed on and shape-shifts, like a transformer, to rearrange, enlarge and generally make everything more accessible, readable and usable. This is specially noticeable on a mobile phone. Try it.

Now look at your website on a PC or Mac, then look at it on a phone, then a tablet. Did it change shape to fit? Was it always usable? No? Time for a new website!

So if you want to transform your website the same way we transformed ours, give us a call on 0161 766 1742 or complete the form on this site or contact David at dsf@pimdesign.com
